So, how do you get on the home page of YouTube? If I had a nickel for every time we’ve been asked that question, I wouldn't be writing this blog.
Here is a must-read article for all of you which will help you understand YouTube opportunities better. The folks at PBS spoke with folks at YouTube to find out how they select which video is profiled on the home page. We all know one placement on the home page of YouTube can bring you an instant hit of major international exposure. The story talks about a stand-up comic who had his traffic scream up to 750,000 views. He attributed his success to "finding topics that are timely — like George Bush’s backrub of German Chancellor Angela Merkel — and keeping his videos short and (bitter)sweet."
In a nutshell, you either pay your way which last we checked was approximately $75k for the day (may be higher now), or you submit a video for editorial review which they say are reviewed by an editorial team. If you ask me, you probably have better odds of being struck by lightning than slipping through the free route but we'll continue to try anyway. :)
